What is Brake?

On average, eight families every day in the UK must be told that a loved one has died
suddenly and violently in a road crash. Many of these deaths are children and young
people – road crashes are the single biggest killer of 15-19 year-olds. Brake is a
national road safety charity that exists to stop deaths and injuries on UK roads and
to care for people who are bereaved and seriously injured by road crashes every year.
Why we need the support of companies
More than two-thirds of our income is provided through the generosity of companies
(our corporate partners and donors) who share our determination to make the
roads safer for their employees and all other road users.

How the money is spent

This money goes towards:

high-profile education campaigns such as Road Safety Week,
during which thousands of schools, community groups,
companies, local authority Road Safety Units, police forces
and individuals coordinate or take part in awareness-raising
initiatives and educational events;

educating road users (through leaflets, posters, websites,
videos and training schemes) and raising awareness of road
safety issues through the media;

helping employers to run safe fleets, through the Fleet
Safety Forum, which supplies free and low cost \\\"risk
management\\\" information to employers and coordinates
best-practice conferences and workshops;

subsidising Brake\\\'s Pledge to Drive Safely scheme, which
offers drivers the chance to sign up to 12 promises that will
help them to be safer drivers;

researching topics such as mobile phone use, speed and child
road safety and sharing the results with companies,
organisations, MPs, government departments and the general
public;

caring for people who have been bereaved or traumatised by
a road crash, by providing a helpline and support packs for
victims, friends and families following a death or serious
injury in a crash.
